Women in Civil

Women in Civil Mentoring Program

The Women in Civil Mentoring Program is a professionally designed and delivered development program for women Mentees in the Western Australian civil infrastructure industry who seek support, guidance and professional growth.

Mentees are paired with a highly experienced Mentor who is willing to commit time and energy to help the Mentee with their professional development.

CCF WA works with leadership development organisation Modal to deliver the program, which is facilitated by Rechelle Hawkes AM, former Hockeyroos Captain and three-time Olympic gold medalist.

This program assists Mentees develop skills in areas including goal setting, understanding personality styles, network building, how to identify and confront challenges, and industry understanding and confidence.

Over the past few years we’ve been been hearing how the Mentoring Programs have literally been changing lives. Only a few weeks ago at our last breakfast, one of the mentees from the program told us that such were the personal skills and confidence she gained from the mentoring program, she viewed it as a turning point in her career.

For the 2024 Mentoring Program, we have secured funding from the Transport Portfolio – so this year’s program will have a transport focus. We’ll be seeking to help develop of the careers of young professional female mentees; engineers, estimators, contract administrators, communications professionals, HSEQ specialists, etc.

COMMENTS FROM PAST CCF WA WOMEN IN CIVIL MENTORING PROGRAM PARTICIPANTS:

‘Meeting all the confident and strong women in the program definitely inspired me to want to aim higher in my career and be more involved in the industry. I feel I have gained a lot more confidence throughout this program, in being able to speak up at work and how I present myself.’

 2022 Mentoring Program mentee

‘What I have learnt from the workshops has allowed me to become more comfortable and confident in my workplace. I am far more comfortable to suggest changes in the workplace and have those “difficult conversations” than I was before this program.’

– 2022 Mentoring Program mentee

‘(The mentee) had a noticeable improvement in her self-confidence and also self-awareness as a manager which allowed her to understand and work on areas of improvement. Overall, I felt this was a fantastic program.’

2023 Women in Civil Breakfast

It was a busy morning on Wednesday, March 15 for the CCF WA team, hosting the sold-out 2023 Women in Civil Breakfast supported by Kais Hire, Sitech WA and Downer Group. We were joined by a crowd of 300 at The Westin Perth to hear from special guest speakers Belinda Stopic and Rebecca Reeves, who covered industry stats, practical career and life advice for women aspiring to advance their career in civil, and a reminder to leaders to mentor and sponsor women within their own organisations. Jackie Taylor also spoke to her experience as a Mentee in the 2022 Women in Civil Mentoring Program, and the graduating cohort was presented with their certificates of completion by Belinda Stopic representing the State Government Transport Portfolio, major funder of the Mentoring Program. Thanks to Department of Transport, Western Australia, Kais Group , Cbus Super Fund and Whittens for sponsoring the 2022 Women in Civil Mentoring Program. Thank you once again to our speakers, sponsors and suppliers, and a big thank you to all who attended for supporting the Women in Civil initiative. We hope everyone who attended the event took away something valuable, whether it be an insight, a reminder or a connection.
